Tertiary butanol, also known as tert-butyl alcohol (tBA), is the simplest tetiary alcohol with the formula (CH3)3COH.
It is a colorless, solid compound at room temperature with a camphor-like odor.
tBA is highly soluble in water and is used as a solvent in chemical synthesis, as a denaturant for ethanol, and as an octane booster in gasoline.
It serves as a valuable intermediate for producing various chemicals, including organic peroxides, antioxidants, and other fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
