Boric Acid is a mild acid of Boron, it is created when Colemanite ore is reacted with Sulphuric Acid.

It is a white powder product and is used in various different applications.

Glass – It prevents devitrification in glass production and increases the resistance against heat, chemicals and mechanical impacts.

Ceramics – Used as a binder, as a result the melting and adhesion occurs at lower temperatures.  It enhances the resistance to breakages and scratches and strengthens chemical resistance.  Boric Acid is also used in glazing and enamel coatings where sodium is not desired.  Improves condenation properties in porcelain tiles by increasing vitrification temperatures.

Detergent – Boric Acid is used as a germicide and bleaching agent, it can be added to soap and detergents due to it’s water softening properties.  It can reduce washing time and temperature.

Agriculture – Boron is one of the nutrients required by plants, plays an important role in plant yield.  It can be used alone or along with standard fertilizers in soil with low boron content.

Fire Retardant – Boric Acid is the basic form of borate-fire retardants, used to reduce kindling rate of burning substances.  It can be used along side DOT as a retardant in wooden composite materials and marine, yacht and aviation coatings.

Wood Protection – Boric Acid is used as a protective agent against rotting on dry or wet wooden surfaces.  Protective agents with borate compounds are used against factors such as moss, fungi and ooze.

Lubrication – The colloidal suspensions of boric acid from a good lubricant for ceramic and metal surfaces when added to petroleum and vegetable oils.
